Reliable Partnership Keeps Operations on Track for DTNA Parts
Customer Profile
DTNA Parts supports the North American dealer network for Daimler Truck, one of the world’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturers. The Canton facility operates as a 575,000-square-foot kitting and distribution hub, responsible for breaking down bulk parts, unitizing them for resale, and shipping them to dealers across the country.
Business Situation
For more than three decades, Jamestown Container Companies (JCC) has been a key packaging supplier for DTNA Parts, a division of Daimler Truck North America. Approximately half of DTNA Parts’ packaging needs, covering about 250 SKUs, are met by JCC, making them an essential link in the company’s supply chain.
DTNA Parts manages a rigorous Supplier review process every three years. Supplier selection isn’t based solely on price. Reliability, responsiveness, and the ability to meet strict operational requirements play a decisive role. JCC’s consistency, onsite support within 24 hours when needed, and readiness to troubleshoot have made them a preferred supplier for many years.
As a lean operation with 575,000 square feet of warehouse and kitting space, DTNA Parts depends on partners who can keep pace with its distribution schedule and high safety standards. JCC’s track record of quality, problem-solving, and transparent communication has made it indispensable in maintaining smooth operations.
Solution
Jamestown Container Companies’ (JCC) expertise and responsiveness have made it DTNA Parts’ primary corrugated supplier. A major portion of DTNA’s outbound shipping relies on robust triple-wall Gaylord cartons manufactured by JCC. When the previous assembler failed to meet safety and quality standards, leading to several employee injuries from exposed staples, JCC stepped in immediately. The transition was seamless, eliminating safety issues and preventing shipment delays.
Speaking about the transition, Vince Hall, DTNA Parts Aftermarket Packaging Manager, said, “This could have shut down shipments to our customers. We did not miss a beat. We didn’t delay even one customer’s order during that transition period. For the last six months, we’ve been hitting on all cylinders. We haven’t had any quality issues, and it’s been a very good run.”
JCC’s role extends beyond material supply. They collaborate with DTNA’s packaging engineers to design and refine packaging solutions that improve workflow and reduce waste. When DTNA introduced carton erectors, roughly 50 cartons required conversion from RSC to die-cut formats. JCC managed the redesign process, ensuring each carton worked seamlessly with the new equipment.
When the machines later began damaging cartons, Jamestown again provided hands-on support, bringing in a maintenance specialist who collaborated with DTNA Parts’ maintenance team to diagnose the issue as a calibration fault, not a box defect. Their commitment to finding the root cause rather than deflecting responsibility reflects the trust and transparency that define the relationship.
Whether through engineering collaboration, process troubleshooting, or proactive communication, JCC continues to demonstrate the reliability and partnership that DTNA Parts requires to keep its supply chain moving.
“What’s important to me is that the people I’m dealing with are straightforward, honest, and upfront with me. It’s a true testament to why Jamestown is by far the number one corrugate supplier here.” — Vince Hall, DTNA Parts
